Secret Dealings

Texas is one of only a handful of states which do not require property sales prices to be disclosed.

The MLS reports prices and allows appraisers to keep home appraisals close to market values, but commercial sales are cloaked in secrecy.

The Texas Association of Appraisal Districts estimates: Texas commercial property is undervalued by 40 percent.

Tax Protest at TCAD

Dozens of angry citizens heeded the call of ChangeAustin.org for an old-fashioned tax protest.

Thursday, July 16, outside the offices of the Travis Central Appraisal District, people expressed their opposition to what they called high and inequitable taxation on their properties.
